Welcoming Our Fourth ‘Meet the Artist’ Exhibition

An important part of Owl & Monkey has been our ‘Meet the Artist’ exhibitions. Offering local artists and creatives the chance to share the shop as they bring us exciting new displays and creations to explore.

It is always a joy to work with each artist as they all bring totally different styles and approaches to the displays they offer. It is great fun to meet such a wealth of local talent.

November will see us welcome Michelle Hughes of Michelle Hughes Design with a beautiful collection of her linocut prints.

Michelle is a freelance graphic designer and printmaker. Her linocut prints are inspired by nature; her love of gardening and the great British countryside. Her interest in 1950s textiles and ceramics also influences much of her work.

Michelle loves exploring the countryside by bike or on foot, camera in hand, capturing ideas for her next prints.

Back in her garden studio, Michelle creates simple but stylised silhouettes based on her photographs, and cuts these shapes into lino. She hand prints with an etching press, using oil-based inks to create tonal blocks of colour. Michelle’s prints are limited editions and make lovely treats for the home as well as great Christmas gifts for friends and family.

As part of the York Printmakers http://www.yorkprintmakers.org.uk/ Michelle has exhibited at York City Screen and York Cemetery and she will be a part of York Open Studios 2018. She also offers brilliant linocut workshops and open days at her lovely new studio.

You can find out more about Michelle at www.michellehughes.co.uk

Michelle’s exhibition will be with us from Thursday 9th November – Saturday 2nd December. We will be hosting a special evening viewing 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm; do pop by for a glass of fizz and a chance to view the exhibition and meet Michelle.
