Meet the Maker
Giuliana was trained at Istituto D'Arte Stagio in Pietrasanta, gaining a Master of Arts Diploma. This was followed by a further four years studying painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara.
Growing-up in Tuscany, Giluliana was inspired by her time spent in her father's studio and the Tuscan landscape. Her childhood memories strongly influence her, with colour playing an important part of her work.
Now living in Yorkshire, Giuliana expresses how she is 'captivated by the British landscape' and her linocuts showcase her love of these surroundings and of simple, minimal images.
Giuliana hand carves each image onto linoleum plates which are hand-inked and printed onto the paper by a hand-operated printing press. For images of more than one colour the process of inking and pressing the image to the paper needs to be repeated as your final image can be made of more than one printing plate. The process gives each linocut a wonderful link back to the artist and the very special process of lino printing.
